NEHAWKA – Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a one-car accident that sent one person to the hospital early Saturday morning.
Cass County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Nebraska State Patrol and rescue squads from Union, Nehawka and Plattsmouth responded to the intersection of Nehawka Road and 30th Street at 1:18 a.m. Saturday. Emergency responders found three people inside a 1999 GMC Sierra pickup involved in a rollover accident.
Deputies reported that Union resident Adam Nemetz, 21, was eastbound on Nehawka Road when he lost control of the pickup. The truck left the road, hit an embankment and rolled before coming to a stop. Nemetz was ejected from the pickup and was trapped underneath the vehicle.
Rescue crews freed Nemetz and transported him to an Omaha hospital with unknown injuries. Deputies reported that they believe alcohol was a factor in the accident. They also said Nemetz was not wearing his seat belt at the time.
Omaha resident Luke Embry, 21, and Bellevue resident Jessica Hodges, 20, were passengers in the pickup. Both escaped without injuries and declined medical transport. Deputies were on scene until 3:03 a.m. investigating the accident.
